THE STORY OF Partee and Pals
Truth be told I am Partee and pals, Partee Irwin Johnny Kaufman Friedman, sounds like one of those Old Spanish names that go on and on. Anyhow it was just me. I started when I was 22 in Copenhagen Denmark that was in 1957 and here its 2002 and I'm still doing it, selling my art, that's what I do and have done all my life.
Somewhere along the away other people joined in, even way back in Copenhagen I started to have pals, people were selling for me or people whose work I sold. There was Jimmy Gibeze, my friend Billy Steinsmith, and others I have forgotten by now. Along the way I started to realize that lots of people wanted to do what I was doing, that is making their living doing something they enjoyed, and many of them were talented and creative. Writers, poets, musicians, sculptors and painters. Their problem was they could create but they couldn't market, I could do both, I noticed from time to time that someone would be selling my pictures for me who wasn't an artist or creative person in any way. And it began to dawn on me that this could be called a business, artists creating, sales people selling, and lots of people being exposed to and participating in the creative process. In the late '60s and early '70s due to the great number of people who had turned on Tuned in and dropped out, there were a lot of people who needed to earn some money but really didn't want a job. And they came to me offering to sell my work part-time some-time full-time I didn't care. If they did it once a week or every day of the month, that was just extra money for me. And as I had gotten into multiples that is etchings which are original prints. I had inventories and could supply a large number of people with pictures to sell.
And so that was the birth of Partee and pals. And many of you who are reading this now are also the pals, that is if you ever bought some work from us. So there it is, it worked and it's still working, I am 68 and basically I'm still doing the same thing. The reason I am writing this and putting it on to my website, is simply this. For all the artists and other creative types who would like to make their living doing what they like doing instead of what they hate doing, I would be happy to help you get started. In a small way, for small consultation fee, or in a big way, for a large investment. I or a some of my agents have sold Pictures in every city of note, and small towns as well, in the United States. And I, personally. have sold in almost every country in Western Europe. Dirrect Sales is the second oldest profession in the world.
For Met life and fuller Brush and a thousand other companies and products. It is the only way to sell something people really don't need in an immediate way. But something that is of great value, once it is brought to the attention of someone. The possibilities are endless.
Although through the years I have found that due to the elitist nature of the art world, most people are reluctant to think of art as a product. And therefor not a lot of art is sold and very few people have the experience of original Art in their homes and lives. Were I to visit 100 homes in an upper middle class Neighborhood in NYC, Los Angles, Chicago, Paris, or Amsterdam, (all of which I have done) 90 of them would have a Van Gogh, or Rembrandt or Picasso print on the wall, but not one piece of original Art. And all they really need to turn that corner, make that move; is for some one with some good work to tell them its allright to make up their own minds.
